SewPink - Tablet Case

As many of you know, I usually step away from the 3D sewing craze, be it quilted coats or bags, but once a year I love challenging myself for a wonderful cause. ByAnnie’s Sew PINK Initiative does amazing work raising awareness, promoting screenings, fostering community, and supporting cancer research.

I talked about my sister and cervical cancer in my last year’s post; this time I want to honor my mom who I love deeply, she was an extraordinary woman who got brain cancer. Notice how I carefully chose my words because I don’t want cancer to be the thing that defines her.

She went to college to study sociology and went to work for a big tech company developing their outreach programs. She was also a professor whose students loved and admired her. She was a wonderful sister to five women and a caring wife and friend. But above all she was the best grandmother and an unconditional mom that loved all her children with all her being (but not more than the grandkids, they always won!)

Now, the brain cancer ribbon is gray and since there’s nothing grey about my mom, I decided to focus on blue, her favorite color.

I chose the iCases 2.0 pattern. It’s so practical and the extra pocket for pencils or a little notebook, the padding, all the places to add color, and the perfect size for me to add a little In My Heart FPP block to make it my own!

Having something to distract your mind is a big help during long chemo sessions. A tablet is perfect to watch a movie, or listen to music, or even work if you feel like it.

For the materials I went with my favorite light denim from Robert Kaufman (it has neon specks!) and a lovely Tilda print with blue little flowers and tiny pink accents. I also added a hot pink zipper from ByAnnie and a matching scrap of solid hot pink fabric, also from RK, to coordinate with the zipper.

As always, I am using Aurifil thread. I love their wide variety of colors, and using their color card makes it easy to find the perfect match.

This will end up in my daughter’s hands, and it’s perfect for her tablet, where she’s always doodling or writing. I like that she can slip her glasses into the pocket too, or even a small book!

I’m really thrilled with how professional the finished case looks. While bag making can test my patience, ByAnnie's detailed patterns and add-on videos are a lifesaver. The labels to keep you organized and the little touches, like making a matching fabric zipper pull, truly are the icing on the cake!

I highly recommend this project, and as you can see, it was pretty simple to add a small FPP block to it. But more than anything else, recommend that you and your loved ones participate in regular screening for potential cancers, since it can make a huge difference!

The #SewPink Initiative's mission is to raise awareness for cancer throughout the year.

Efforts culminate in an annual blog hop during October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month to promote self-care, awareness, early detection and support for those affected by breast cancer.
