Heart Bits Quilt - The Baby Version

I’d been meaning to make a baby version of my Heart Bits pattern for a while now, and lo and behold: the perfect occasion! “Sew Seeds of Love” turned out to be the perfect choice, not only because the color palette is sweet and gentle, unconventionally so (a lot of warm colors achieve that cozy effect I love to see), but because of the balance variety fitting so well with Heart Bits: a bunch of smaller and more neutral prints will compose the outer ‘bits’ of the heart, while the center is uniquely suited to show off the larger prints.

Personally, I tried to show off a bit of everything with my center picks; I fussy cut the scenes that I liked the most and then added several small prints that make a perfect complement.

Now, the plan was to have the binding be as unobtrusive as possible; I didn’t want it to compete with the busy prints, but hey, plans change! Instead, I used these stripes that, by having every color in the collection’s palette, really make the whole quilt pop!

I did some fussy-cut for particularly adorable details, they’re scattered around so they can each shine in their own little areas.

I’m sure some of you have noticed by now, but my fussy cuts weren’t just limited to the center bits; I just HAD to make sure I didn’t cut a poor puppy’s head off or leave a word bubble unfinished. This is far from mandatory when making a quilt like this, but honestly it was really fun!

Another thing to point out is the big strip across the back of the quilt; this is a habit I’ve taken up more and more; not just because it makes the back more vivid and interesting, but it’s a lifesaver when you’re running short on the fabric you planned on using for your backing.

One last thing I want to point out: take a closer look to the wonderful quilting by my friend Andrea from Walker Quilt Co. She used a soft pink thread that gives the quilt a magic aura. Precious!

Alright! Check out the Heart Bits pattern here It comes in two different sizes and has a solids version as well. Let me know if and when you make it; I’d love to see!

Have very lovely days!
