Kona Color of the Year 2024
The Corolla Quilt Pattern is available in the SHOP
Okay, we’re quilters so I KNOW I’m not the only one who looks forward to finding out what KONA’s color of the year will be every December. We love colors; using them, picking them, talking about them, playing with them. It’s what we do!
So I’m sure you’ll be able to understand my excitement when I was asked to make a quilt for this year’s lookbook. Eek! Not only did I get a sneak peek at the color, but I got to play with possible color combos and designs. So let me share the experience!
First let me present to you the 2024 color of the year: Julep. It’s a pale blue-green, like a less leafy mint tone. My instant thought was to shallow ocean water on a dream-worthy beach.
My task, then, was to think of a quilt that would really let this color shine. Corolla was just right: the background color criss-crosses through the flowers, really pulling the whole pattern together.
I wanted a high contrast with my colors, so I went to the opposite end of the spectrum from Julep to these rich pinks and oranges. Then, I found a fabric that looked like a darker version of Julep for the binding and this gorgeous quilt came to life!

If you have Corolla (or plan on getting it!), and want to replicate this quilt, check the back of the pattern for reference. I made the throw size of solid flowers. Throw size quilts are just such a sweet spot, don’t you think? Big enough to curl up under but small enough that you don’t want to climb the wall in exasperation making it!
I can’t skip past mentioning the quilting, which was done by my friend Kaitlyn from Knot & Thread. Don’t those long four petaled flowers remind you so much of the Corolla flowers? I absolutely love how they came out!
What comes to mind when you see Julep? My interpretation turned into fiery colored flowers floating over clear waters. I can’t wait to see what everyone else thinks of!
