Flower Love Quilt Pattern - The Baby Version

Something Grows in Quarantine

Any creative type knows that starting a project is immensely easier (and more exciting!) than bringing it all the way to fruition. That means that every creative type has a little shelf in the back of their brain that’s overflowing with abandoned ventures and half-baked ideas. Now that the kids are starting to get busy and quarantine brain hasn’t quite worn off, I’ve taken the time to dust off my personal ‘I’ll get to it at some point’ shelf and I found some wonderfully solid foundations!

Years ago, I made a mini version of this pattern, Flower Love. While it made the cutest pillow or baby quilt, I’ve always wanted to make a bigger version. So… I decided to take it a step further and I wrote up the pattern for the Throw and Baby sizes!

You’ll see I went a completely different route with the big one; I wanted some bold contrasting block backgrounds to give it a more modern look.

For the baby version, I wanted to keep the block backgrounds but in a more subtle way.

Of course, I used striped binding, since it’s one of my favorites. I think the bright mint pairs really well with the flowery pattern; it creates a look that stands out!

Writing these posts feels a little like a job interview; where you have to toot your own horn when every bone in your body is telling you to be dismissive of yourself. In the spirit of owning up to our talents, I will honestly tell you that I work hard to make sure my patterns are doable, fun, and easy to follow. As a visual learner myself (and, also, a graphic designer), I create and include my own full color graphics because it is so much easier to understand instructions when there’s a little illustration showing us how.

That being said, I have to thank Jennifer from Farm Fresh Stitches for the wonderful job on the quilting (I chose these loose flowers: so pretty!) and I tip my hat to those of you who share her talent for quilting; I can align a print perfectly, make the flattest seams, the most accurate blocks and even perfect points, but please don’t ask me to… quilt my quilt.

As for the backing, I had a bit of fun using the leftovers from the front to create an alternating pattern that brought together the essence of my top.

Most importantly, (well besides the usual: stay safe, hold your breath outside, get sleep, love yourself, wear your mask, etc.), I would love it if you tagged me or sent me pictures of your quilts should you choose to make this pattern!

Enjoy yourselves and happy quilting!
